Lumbar spondylosis

Lumbar spondylosis is the term given to wear and tear of the lumbar (lower back) spinal discs. This condition is often used to describe degenerative arthritis of the spine.


  • It appears to be a non-specific ageing phenomenon.


  • Can have no symptoms, but people may experience:

Pain areas

  • in the back, legs, thighs and buttocks that worsens with standing.
  • Muscular: muscle weakness or muscle spasms.
